Why Fast?
What an usual thing to do. But when God puts something on your heart to do, how can you say "No"?
In October God began to nudge me to fast for the month of Jan, just as my housemate, Florence, does (and has done for over 10 years). I did want to fast again, after last year, to see what else I might learn and experience.
20 days on, this is what I have learned:
with the support of the Holy Spirit, anything is possible
using sugar with tea leaves a really bad taste in my mouth
we don't need to eat every day, never mind 3 square meals a day
freeing up all the shopping/prep/eating/clean up time leaves a lot of room to explor other things
my prayer life has increased radically
I can still work, albeit more slowly and thoughtfully than before
getting enough liquids each day can help me keep my temper
and maybe God wants me to do 40 days, not just 31.
We will see how it all turns out. I am healthy, working each day (combination of eMi and Heritage School) and feel fine. I sleep well at night and have enough energy to walk some each day.
Florence told me of a testimony she heard from a person who had been used as a child with parents who practiced witchcraft. She was taught to intercept prayers and quash them or redirect them. She reported that prayers from fasting believers could not be touched, nor could the answers to prayers. This isn't Biblical, but, if true, just gives one more reason to prayer.
Maybe fasting is worth a try??? I certainly think so.
